From Bangkok to the US Embassy: A review of travel law.

Arrested for violating U.S. Law While In Thailand

Bredimus Jurisprudence

Cornell University offers commentary on Title 18 United States Code, Section 2251A(b) ("selling or buying of children"). Section 2251 in general is concerned with "sexual exploitation of children".

Violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2423(e), attempting to travel in foreign commerce to engage in sexual relations with a minor, is not properly documented on the United States FBI Web site. The "Federal Statutes Relating to Crimes Against Children" page only lists paragraphs (a) and (b) of section 2423. It appears that any stipulated violation of Section 2423(e) is probably supposed to be stipulated as a violation of Section 2423(b).

Persons violating U.S. Law while traveling in Thailand may face severe penalties and should seek legal counsel immediately. No attempt to obstruct justice either under Thai law or U.S. Law is advisable or preferable. Thai laws forbid trafficking in illegal drugs, child pornography, and other offenses. U.S. Law forbids traveling to foreign countries for the purpose of engaging in sexual conduct with children or using or disseminating child pornography in a foreign country.
